An Analytical Method for Oligosaccharides in Sugarcane Products

چکیده

An analyt~cal method has been developed which can be used for routine detect1011 and estiinatlon of oligosacchar~des in cane sugar products. Levels as low as 0.01% can be detected and oligosacchaiides have beell found in all m~l l and refinery products. The method IS based on giadient elutlon wlth aqueous ethanol, usiilg a carbon-celite column. Samples of about zoo mg glve good results for most products. About five hours are needed for the complete analysis because preliminary elution~s necessary to remove the bulk of the sucrose before the gradient is appl~ed. The ol~gosaccharides usually present 111 cane products call be ~esolved ~ n t o three major colnponents and then relat~ve proportions can be estimated. The degree of crystal growth inhibition which might be expected can be assessed from the presence of I-kestose, neo-lcestose and another ol~gosaccharide (015-I), all oligosaccharides contribute to thk optical iotatioil measured , for pol deterininations. The other minor and trace compounds cannot be eas~ly dlst~ngulsl~ed as lildividual coinponents

Infrared multiphoton dissociation of alkali metal-coordinated oligosaccharides.

Infrared multiphoton dissociation (IRMPD) of alkali metal-coordinated oligosaccharides was obtained in a Fourier transform mass spectrometer. Fragmentation of the oligosaccharides was observed for Li+- and Na+-coordinated species. For larger alkali metal ions (K+, Rb+, and Cs+), the major products were the alkali metal ions. IRMPD experiments were performed on milk oligosaccharides, and the dis...

Alkaline degradation of oligosaccharides coupled with matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization Fourier transform mass spectrometry: a method for sequencing oligosaccharides.

A new technique for determining sequence and linkage information of underivatized oligosaccharides is developed using alkaline degradation and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization Fourier transform mass spectrometry (MALDI-FTMS). Alkaline degradation (also known as the "peeling" reaction) is a chemical degradation technique that only cleaves the glycosidic bond at the reducing end by bet...

اثر آبیاری جویچه‌ای یک در میان روی کارآیی مصرف آب و ویژگی‌های نیشکر در جنوب اهواز

Sugarcane has been cultivated in an extensive area in Khuzestan and irrigated by hydro-flume or siphon and furrow. In a field experiment during 2005-6 at Amir Kabir Agro-Industry, Khuzestan, the effect of every other-furrow irrigation method was studied on sugarcane in regard to irrigation water volume, water use efficiency and quality and quantity of sugarcane. The experiment was conducted in ...

Advances in dietary fibre characterisation. 1. Definition of dietary fibre, physiological relevance, health benefits and analytical aspects.

Since 1953, the definition of 'dietary fibre' (DF) has evolved significantly following an international debate based on analytical progress, new nutritional and physiological knowledge and also private interests of the food industry. The overall tendency is towards an extension of the definition by including resistant starches as well as non-digestible oligosaccharides. This broadened definitio...

The Effect of Changing the Harvesting Method on the Agronomic and Physiological Characteristics of Sugarcane Cultivars

Replacement of the usual harvesting sugarcane method (burning field before harvesting) by green harvesting method could be the most important factor contributing to the ecological balance and stable sugarcane production in the Khuzestan region. To evaluate the green harvesting sugarcane method and its effects on the agronomic and physiological characteristics of sugarcane cultivars, a field exp...
